Leeds Utd fan Darren Priaulx was beaten-up by Bristol City fans for celebrating Leeds scoring in the 17th minute while playing at Ashton Gate. Priaulx and relatives had bought tickets for the Dolman Stand, a Home supporters area of Ashton gate. He and his relatives would have been surrounded by home fans.
I totally hate football violence and I am disgusted that he was set-up by a gang of Bristol City fans. However I have zero sympathy for Darren Priaulx. When he bought the tickets for the non-away part of the stadium he surely would have realised the risk he was taking.
I do not condone this situation in any way: I truly wish home and away fans could mix in a spirit of good fun and banter. But this is not the reality of the situation at all. Priaulx would have known that. By jumping-up to cheer the goal he heaped stupidity on top of risk and the end result was the punch-up.
I have gone to away games and sat in with Home supporters because I couldn't get a ticket. But I kept my mouth well shut. Darren Priaulx shoud have done the same.
